I wanted to share some styling ideas with ya for my New Balance 574+ stacked platform sneakers before the darn things sell out completely. I did my best to pull together six outfit ideas for the 574s in a hurry, but Halloween definitely got in the way (have I mentioned I love Halloween?!).
I recently dove deep into classic New Balance sneakers and these platform 574+s were my favorite. The New Balance 574+ has a very modern stacked platform sole and is super comfy with total dad vibes (in a good way). Honestly? They’re all I want to bop around in lately.
BUT…If you’re worried about having a platform sole, you just don’t like them, or if the 574+ are already sold out in the gray (some other colors are still available) these New Balance Core 574s are still around and give the exact same vibe just without the platform sole — a great alternative. They’re a super comfy sneaker with the same classic dad vibes. And they’re easier to find in stock. Where To Find New Balance 574 Core in Gray: Amazon | J.Crew | Zappos
Sizing: I sized up 1/2 size in all the New Balance I tried and that was a good choice. They run a little short.
I thought these New Balances 574+ would be tricky to style but I was wrong. They’re such a fun update to a classic shoe — I had a great time putting together some everyday outfits (think: sweats & jeans). I think it’s the nostalgia of these sneakers that does it for me (as I mentioned in my New Balance try-on post.) When I did my try-on, a big part of why I kept the stacked 574s is because I’m on the shorter side (5’4″) and I can wear all my full-length jeans right now without the hems dragging the ground.
Styling a piece up a bunch of ways is by far my favorite thing to do, and even gray sneakers are no exception. This is what counts as fun for me, friends. As always, I hope it’s helpful for y’all!
Where To Find New Balance 574 Stacked: Dick’s Sporting Goods | Foot Locker
1. With Wide-Leg Jeans + A Graphic Sweatshirt
First up, we’re keeping things easy and comfy with jeans and a sweatshirt. But…make it a little updated with this Free People graphic sweatshirt (my new fav) and beloved Moussy jeans. I have plenty of oversized sweatshirts already, so I wound up exchanging this S for an XS (see below) but I still dig this silhouette. This look would also work with that gorgeous Staud sweater I have from Saks.
Sweatshirt (s) | Jeans (29) | Sneakers
This look isn’t rocket science, but I think the pieces are what make it special. If replicating, I’d stick with a longer sweatshirt (or sweater) like the one I have on and a wide-leg or wider straight-leg jean. If you want a decent dupe for the Moussy jeans, some of the ripped washes at Abercrombie give a similar look! I’d suggest sizing up in their jeans.
2. With Vuori Joggers (+ That Same Sweatshirt)
This is a no-brainer and is probably the outfit I wear 70% of the time, too. Haha. I need ALL the colors of the Vuori Performance joggers in my life. They are just the BEST because they are so soft, fit well, and don’t stretch out…i.e. If you accidentally sleep in them you can still wear them to school drop-off.
Sweatshirt (xs) | Joggers | Sneakers
3. With A Navy Blazer & Black Jeans
Ok, my part-preppy, part-rocker-chic self is so down for this outfit. I think the most interesting outfits mix genres, so to speak, and this one does that in a subtle way: the all-black outfit underneath with the preppy blazer on top. Oh, and the sneakers add a bit of a sporty vibe that is also very me.
Blazer (s) | Tee | Jeans (29) | Sneakers | Bag
I think this outfit could also work with black wide-leg sweatpants. Idk…I would have to play with it, but there’s something fun about this combo and yet it’s super wearable and comfy, too! Long live blazers.
4. With AWrap Puffer Vest & Jeans
Oh, this duvet vest…it is heavenly soft. And the cut is really unique and cool! Well done, Gap. It runs a little big. I’m wearing an XS here and I’m typically a S/M in more fitted things. I’m in love with this soft gray-brown color, too. It’s less harsh on my smaller frame than the black option was.
Vest (xs) | Sweatshirt (xs) | Jeans (29) | Sneakers
Styling it? I prefer not to snap it so that I can wrap it over a bit farther and then tie the waist belt to the side. This was the most flattering way to configure it on my body. LOVE. Will be living in.
5. With Black Jeans + A Shacket
I’m finally a shacket fan. It took me a while to find a shacket that was just right for me (turns out it’s denim…no surprise there) I think really embracing oversized-ness instead of only going for a-little-too-big (like I did for too long) is the way to go. It keeps it fresh and modern.
Shacket (6) | Jeans | Sneakers
You can rock this look with any oversized shirtdress/shacket that you have though. A plaid flannel option would also be super cute!
6. With A White Sweater Blazer + Nike Straight Leg Sweatpants
Blazers are game-changers. I swear. Throw one on and instantly upgrade your outfit…kinda like a trench coat does in my book. (Wait, how did I not include a trench coat look here?!) Mine is years old from Nordstrom (some of you heard about it for YEARS) but J.Crew has a great sweater version right now that looks just as comfy.
Blazer (similar) | Tee (similar) | Pants (s) | Sneakers
These wide-leg Nike sweatpants are another tricky comfort piece that looks a little more leveled-up than your typical jogger-fit sweats. I’m wearing a size S here and they are definitely roomy.
Again, hope this helps give ya some ideas, friends, for styling any of your similar sneakers! Until next time…
xo,
L
