Forutnelty, these issues can be eliminated if they decided to install Ring floodlight without junction box.

So, if you’re thinking about doing the same thing, in this article, we will provide a step-by-step guide on “How To Install Ring Floodlight Without Junction Box?”

Additionally, we’ll show you some tips and tricks to get your installation process done in a short time with just some simple tools.

Quick Overview

Yesterday, I was having a conversation with my neighbor when I was asked how I installed my Ring Floodlight.

I told them that the technician came to set up it, and he told me that I didn’t need to install a junction box.

I had never done anything like that before and I was a little worried about whether or not it would work correctly.

So, I decided to do some research online to see if anyone else had installed their Ring Floodlight without a junction box.

Turns out, there are plenty of people who have taken this same route! Here is what you need to know.

Now

Do you need a junction box for the Ring floodlight?

The answer is No, you do not need a junction box for the Ring floodlight because it can be directly mounted to the soffit or eave of your home. Plus, the light LED itself can be mounted separately without the need for a Ring security camera junction box.

A general rule of thumb, most outdoor surveillance cameras don’t need a junction box, but some local building codes may require one as the boxes organize the wires that came in and out to the camera.

So, If you are unsure and want to install your Ring floodlight security camera, we recommend consulting with a qualified electrician to ensure compliance with all local codes and ordinances.

Next,

What do I need to install the Ring Floodlight?

Installing a Ring floodlight security camera without a junction box is easy like any installation process for most common cameras.

The only difference is the Ring floodlight requires some additional steps and extra effort as you mount both the camera and floodlight.

Anyway, to install Ring Floodlight without junction box in your property like we did previously, you will need the following tools:-

1. Suitable Location:

The first thing you should do before starting the installation process is to find the perfect spot for your camera.

What I mean is you have to find a level surface on which to place your floodlight camera on it.

This can be either a wall, ceiling, or any other place that you see suitable for your device.

Anyhow, If you are installing it on a wall, make sure that the wall is strong enough to support the weight of the floodlight.

In addition, ensure that the chosen spot is not too close to any power lines or other electrical wiring.

2. A power drill:

The next important tool that you need for any mounting process is the power drill, you will need it to make the holes for your camera screws.

Not only that but it is also needed to widen the hole of the main wires that feed the floodlight.

3. A ladder:

Whether you decide to install your floodlight camera on a ceiling, or any high and hard-to-reach spot, then you will probably need a ladder to reach the chosen location.

The only thing that you should care about using the ladder is to place it on a level surface and ensure it isn’t wobbling.

In case you are uncomfortable using a ladder, you can always ask a friend or a family member for help.

4. A Philip head screwdriver:

The Philip head screwdriver is needed to tighten the screws of the camera, floodlight, and mounting plate.

Note that when you start tightening the screws, make sure that they are not over-stretched as this can damage the floodlight.

5. Wire cutter:

In case you have a wired Ring floodlight camera then you should have a wire cutter for cutting the wires to the correct length.

Be careful while using this tool as the wire cutter may be sharp and damage the wires.

6. A socket wrench:

The socket wrench is used to tighten or loosen the nuts that hold the wires in place.

This is an essential step in the installation process, so you should use a socket wrench that matches the nuts.

7. A hammer:

The hammer is used to drive the screws into the wall or ceiling. Make sure that you have a comfortable grip on the hammer and that you do not hit your hand while using it.

First: Bring the mounting plate, and set the plate on the location where you want to install Ring floodlight without junction box.

Second: Use a pencil or a piece of chalk and start to mark signs on the holes of attaching screws of the plate.

Note that the size of the hole will depend on the size of the screws used to fix the mounting bracket.

Once you have marked the signs, get the power drill and turn it on, start to drill the hole, then with the help of a hammer insert the plastic fisher that comes with the mounting bracket into the hole.

Next, you should widen the hole of the main cable that feeds the camera with signal or power.

Third 3: Attach the Power Cable

Before you take any action on the mounting bracket, you should decide the route of the power cable from the camera to the chosen power outlet.

The moment that you finish selecting the wire route, start to drill the path until you reach the cam location.

Be sure to leave enough length in the cable so that you can easily attach the camera to the bracket.

Another thing that you should pay attention to is using cable fixing clamps along the route while the camera is working.

By doing this, you will protect your camera cables, keep them fixed, and also you’ll prevent anyone from moving them and damage your Ring floodlight device.

Fourth 4: Install the Mounting Bracket

Now it’s time to install the mounting plate that we drilled holes for it in the previous step.

To do this, simply place the bracket over the holes of the plastic fisher that we inserted.

After putting the bracket, bring the mounting screws, turn on the screwdriver, then start to tighten the screws one by one on every bolt hole that existed.

In the beginning, put the Ring floodlight body over the mounting bracket, bring the screws that are included with the camera box, then start to tie them with the help of a screwdriver.

When you finish this, get the camera and floodlights from the package and attach them to the plastic body.

Don’t forget to tie the security screws that existed below the camera, and the floodlights.

Step 6: Test the Camera

Sometimes during the installation, some mistakes happen that make the camera doesn’t work normally.

However, in this step, we will test the camera and check whether everything is done in the correct way or not.

First, Make sure that the wired Ring floodlight camera is connected to the power source, and that there is no sign of damage or cuts in the wires. In case you have a wireless or wire-free model, then you should check the battery is fully charged.

Second, Test if the Wi-Fi connection is working, and see if the camera is linked successfully to the Ring mobile app.

Third, From the mobile application, test the viewing angle, and also the features such as motion detection, and others.

After doing these steps, you have only one thing remaining which is adjusting the level of the light sensor that will activate the floodlight.

Step 7: Adjust the Floodlight Settings

As soon as the power is connected, the camera will start up and you’ll be able to access the settings via the Ring app as we mentioned previously.

The last thing is to adjust the level on which the floodlight will be turned on. So, from the Ring app page, go to settings, search for the floodlight option, then adjust the level.

At the end of the steps, you should ensure that you apply each step completely and check that you don’t forget anything else. For more watch the next video:
