Ok, here’s a quick guide on How to Exit Power Armor in Fallout 4. I’ve also created a short video (which you’ll find below) for everyone that’s struggling to complete such a basic action! I certainly struggled with it for ages, so there’s nothing to be embarrassed about.
A common trend of a lot of new players having trouble with one tiny aspect of Fallout 4 inspired me to write this guide. That tiny aspect is exiting out of your Power Armor. If you’ve damaged it and need to repair the power armor hit the link to read the other guide.
I am so glad that the power armor was revamped for Fallout 4. I just felt like there was something missing from the armor in the last game. Unlike the last game your power armor in Fallout 4 requires zero training to use it.
Each individual armor segment is mounted on a frame, as opposed to previous suits that existed as suits that were worn whole, apart from the helmet of course. The individual pieces of the armor suit can be looted from dead enemies, but, the overall frame cannot be recovered as it isn’t possible for you to remove the dead body from inside the suit.
There’s nothing like walking around in super strong upgraded power armour with a Jetpack to make you feel all powerful. Not to mention how cool it feels to put it on. It feels like you just became the deadliest creature in the wasteland every time you get inside. It feels weighty, and it looks like actual heavy armour, not some anorexic metal armour with a weird helmet from the last games.
The Jetpack itself is an addition that I can’t believe I survived without in the last 2 installments of the game. It received such widespread attention that’s it’s become a main stay of the franchise. What the next power armor will look like has become a hot topic on online gaming discussion.

Fallout 4 How To Exit Power Armor
I’m writing this guide on the assumption that you’re using the default settings on your gaming platform controller of choice. So that’s ‘A’ for Xbox, ‘X’ for PS4 and ‘E’ for PC. If you’ve changed your default control scheme you’ll use something else, so make sure you check what action button you’ve selected for your controller profile.
To exit the armour all you need to do is hold A or X or E if you are on Xbox One, PS4, or PC respectively. Basically, whichever button you pressed to enter the armour, press it and hold and you’ll hop right out.to get in.
Default settings Xbox One, PS4 and PC:
- Xbox Controller: press and hold A button.
- Playstation Controller: press and hold X (Cross button).
- PC Keyboard: press and hold E key.
I told you it was super simple.
Managing Your Armor
Now you know how to get out of the armor. Here’s a bunch of useful tips to help you manage your Power Armor effectively. Firstly, make sure you don’t just exit the armor and move on, that’s a sure fire way to lose it. Make sure you always find a secure place to store it. The best place to store it would be to find a location that has a working Power Armor station.
To store the armor stand next to the station and exit it by pressing and holding your action ‘A’ (other systems are detailed above). The next time you go back to that location it’ll be there waiting for you, you’ll be able to equip it whenever you need it.
If you can’t find a location with a storage station there are other places to stash it. Just make sure you find a decent stash spot that you can fast travel to at a later time. Any discovered location should be suitable but owned settlements are the preferred spots because it means you won’t run into many (if any at all) enemies when you go to collect your armor.
Once you’ve got a taste of wearing your armor you’ll want to go back and collect it from storage eventually. Choose an easy to remember location because you don’t want to have to aimlessly wonder around the wasteland trying to figure out where you left the dammed thing.
Another top tip is to also make sure you have plenty of extra Fusion Cores in your inventory. This becomes especially important if you’re going somewhere that you can’t fast travel out of for a while.
