How To Crochet A Raccoon

crochet raccoon and crochet elephant

What Should Be In Your Crochet Kit Bag This Week?

  • 4mm crochet hook
  • Black DK yarn 50g
  • White DK yarn 50g
  • Gray DK yarn 100g
  • Yarn needle
  • Toy safe stuffing
  • Safety eyes

The yarns I used were Patons Fab DK yarn in Charcoal, and Women’s Institute’s Premium Acrylic DK yarn. The white yarn was some I had left over in the scrap box, so I’m afraid I don’t have a brand for it, but any DK yarn will be fine.

Raccoon Crochet Pattern Notes

In this pattern I will use abbreviations, but I will note the meaning of them the first time I use each one as written instructions. You can find a full list of common crochet abbreviations here, but the ones I’ll mainly use today are

  • sc – single crochet
  • 2sc – single crochet twice into the same stitch
  • sc2tog – use one single crochet to join two stitches together

Free Crochet Raccoon Pattern

This pattern will all be worked up using your 4mm crochet hook or through sewing with your yarn needle. I recommend a metal over a plastic yarn needle, as they are less likely to have a rough area on the surface that catches on the yarn.

This section of the crochet raccoon pattern will use three different colored yarn, so watch out for those color changes.

Leave a long length of yarn when you tie off, so that you have plenty left over for sewing to the body.

Joining Your Crochet Raccoon Together

You can sew your crochet raccoon toy together as you go, or you can hang around until you have all the composite parts and pose him when you’re done. I like to join as I go, because otherwise I’ve been known to leave random crochet limbs strewn around the house. But if you join at the end you can sometimes can up with a more creative pose. So it really is up to you!

Use a smooth yarn needle with no burs, and leave yourself plenty of yarn to thread it through. When you cut off the spare yarn do collect it up, there are lots of fun things you can do with the scraps too!

If you fancy sharing your crochet raccoon pictures with me I’d love to see them, and you can post them on my Facebook page or tag me on Insta. See you there!
