As an outdoors lover, anything related to plus-size workout clothes and activewear gear excites me. I own more pairs of leggings and sports bras than I can count. But even with the hundreds of workout clothing options out there, it can still be a difficult process to search for size-inclusive workout clothing.
There are multiple factors that go into selecting the right item for my plus-size body type. When it comes to searching for sports bras, I need major support for my bust, especially because I’m a former athlete who enjoys playing club volleyball often. As for leggings, I prefer wearing thick layered material that won’t tear at the inner thighs. I also like to keep an array of lightweight t-shirts with moisture-wicking material to keep me feeling cool and sweat-free during my pilates classes. Plus, we can’t forget about the essential everyday activewear pieces that can be worn to casually run errands.
So, as you can see, activewear means a lot to me, and you can trust that I did my due diligence in finding brands that carry the best plus-size workout clothes.
Whether you’re hitting the gym or simply putting together a chic athleisure outfit, it’s always a good idea to have an assortment of staple pieces to complete your wardrobe. I personally believe that you can never own too much activewear. Below, find a few of my all-time favorite brands and clothing pieces that I’ve worn and want to wear all the time.
Adidas
If you see me out on any given weekend, there’s a 95% chance I’m wearing something from Adidas. The brand has been a staple in my life since my early years of playing high school volleyball. My absolute go-to is their sports bras, thanks to the wide variety of size ranges. I also love the workout leggings (below), which are form-fitting and rarely slip down no matter what type of movement I’m doing.
UGG
UGG has always been known as a cult favorite shoe brand. But, the brand does make great apparel options, too. Their basics section has a slew of cute leggings, biker shorts, and bralette options that work perfectly for pilates.
Grind Like A Doll
GLAD is a go-to of mine for all the sweatiest adventures. After doing even the smallest amount of activity, I end up drenched in sweat. Fortunately, GLAD’s sweat-wicking material is great for just that. I’m a huge fan of all the vivid colors, matching leggings, and sports bras.
Torrid
Torrid is a staple in the plus-size community, and the brand offers a size range that goes all the way up to a 30, which is very essential when shopping for curvier gals.
Zella
Zella, found in Nordstrom, creates some of the most comfortable workout clothing I’ve ever worn. Their workout tops and activewear jumpsuits are great for dance classes and for lounging around at the airport.
Adore Me
When you think of Adore Me, you might solely recall lingerie and bras as their main seller, but their activewear section is also worthwhile. If you’re in the mood to stand out and enjoy a good excuse to rock some faux snake print, consider the set below.
Terez
Terez is the brand for anyone that likes to make working out fun. I am a huge believer in the saying looking good makes you feel good — and finding some funky and vibrant activewear to move around in will make even the hardest of workouts fun.
New Balance
We’re all on the NB craze and while we wait to snag a pair of the 550s (please), now’s the right time to get some comfortable leggings, too. I’m a huge fan of brand logo moments and these gray leggings have all the right amount of stretch.
Yitty
Lizzo, in my eyes, is my best friend and therefore Yitty is my best friend’s stellar brand. And while Yitty is making space for inclusive and less constricting shapewear, they’ve ventured into activewear and it’s a hit, just like every Lizzo song.
Maddie Ziegler x Fabletics
As a resident Dance Moms stan, I’ve been following Maddie Ziegler’s career since she was a wee child. She’s been collaborating with Fabletics for a while now and has an assortment of cute and comfortable athletic wear.
Girlfriend Collective
I came across Girlfriend Collective while scrolling through TikTok and was immediately pulled in by the gorgeous activewear clothing styles. They’re another great site to browse when searching for leggings.
Halara
Similar to the aforementioned, Halara is another brand I came across while cruising through my FYP. And while I was drawn in by their workout dresses, I found that they have a large selection of activewear as well.
Old Navy
As a former Old Navy employee, I can confirm that they do, in fact, have a great selection of affordable and flattering leggings and sports bra options. I have had a single pair of leggings from the brand for five years and they are still in great shape.
Pink
I honestly hadn’t ever tested out Pink for its leggings and activewear until a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised. Although their selection only goes to an XL, most items have great stretch and I have no trouble wearing them even though I regularly wear a size 2XL or 3XL.
Aerie
Aerie carries a great mix of vute and cozy undergarments and activewear. Their extra hold leggings are a personal favorite of mine.
Knix
Knix focuses heavily on size inclusivity, while making sure their customers feel their very best. The brands athleisure and activewear selction is perfect for anyone looking for comfort.
Nike
Need I say much about Nike? Loved by athletes and workout enthusiasts everywhere, the brand has made large efforts to expand into plus-sizes and even added plus-size mannequins in stores, which sparked a conversation. Their leggings and sports bras are a go-to and perfect for any occasion.
Athleta
Athleta is another popular brand with sizes up to a US 3X. They have a large array of activewear options and my personal favorite is this two-in-one skirt capri pant style. You get to live out your Disney Channel core style in real-time.
Universal Standard
Focusing on size-inclusive elevated essentials, Universal Standard is a great choice for all of your athleisure needs. When you’re on the go and need some extra space to carry your miscellaneous items (like a cell phone or keys), these pocketed leggings and sleeveless tops are perfect for the job.
Arrow and Phoenix
Arrow and Phoenix is a sustainable brand that fits into any on-the-move lifestyle. The brand not only sells activewear but also carries swim and skincare essentials. They also promote body positivity and encourage shoppers to live a life that enriches others.
Lici Fit
I came across Lici Fit after following one of my favorite fitness TikTokers who solely wears the brand. Their stylish sets are great for wearing at the gym moment or for running errands around town.
KinFlyte
KinFlyte is another recent brand I became a fan of. They carry a size range all the way up to a US size 6X. The brand also uses fabrics and materials designed to focus and support our posture through their unique cueing design.
