How To Display A Quilt

Who doesn’t love a cozy quilt to curl up in when it’s cold outside? I know I do, and today, I want to share with you a few different ways you can display quilts in your home while being functional and stylish.

Quilts Are Made To Use And Enjoy

If you come from a long line of quilters like me, you probably inherited some heirloom quilts like mine. These works of art were made to be seen and used, and I promised my Grandma and Mom that I wouldn’t hide them in a closet.

Be mindful of when you’re displaying quilts in your home; sunlight can cause the colors to fade, so keep them in a protected area away from direct sunlight.

Secondly, rotating them often through your home will also help preserve the colors in the fabric—all the more reason to have a lot of quilts and learn how to display them.

How To Display Quilts In Your Home

#1 The Quilt Roll

Any easy way to display quilts in your home is to roll them up and stack them on an armoire or dresser. Many of the old fabrics used in vintage quilts are floral patterns (flour sack material), and I prefer a beautiful quilt over a bouquet any day.

Quilts can make a beautiful display, and I promise you that your family and or guests will enjoy looking at them but be sure to let them know ahead of time if it’s okay to use them or not. It’s your preference. I say go for it!

How To Display Stacked Quilts

#2 Quilt Stacking

Why not stack a few of your favorite quilts in a chair in the corner of a bedroom? It’s easy to access them if you get cold at night and need a little extra cover.

It makes me so happy to see them sitting in a chair. Even if it’s just a moment of my day as I pass by. Another reason to display quilts in your home. It will make you happy. 🙂 I sure do miss my Grandma.

#3 Hanging Displays

And because quilts are not created equal, I like to hang them from a leaning blanket ladder for those thinner small quilts. Also, known as a quilt ladder in my book, I digress. Not to be confused with a quilt rack.

I love them all, thin, fluffy, oversized, or small (lap quilts).

#4 End Of The Bed Quilt Display

Hello! This is the most common way of how to display quilts in a home and probably the most popular. Believe it or not, there is no wrong way to display a quilt at the end of your bed. Obviously, the messy toss is my favorite. I like the lived-in look in my bedrooms.

If you’re a neat freak like my Grandma was, meticulously folding and possibly ironing your quilts is your thing. We may or may not be friends.

I never quite learned that from her, but she did teach me how to quilt. For that, I’m thankful.

#5 How To Display Quilts On A Shelf

Or you can place them on a shelf. This shelf happens to be in a vintage dresser re-do that had a broken drawer. I think it’s the perfect spot to display one of my favorites.

How To Display Quilts By Drapping

#6 Draping Quilts

This may sound a little unusual, but I like to drape quilts over anything that looks stylish. Furniture happens to be my thing, but you can also hang them from a wall.

I found some great examples of wall hanging using quilts when searching for ideas. CLICK HERE if you need more inspiration for your walls.

#7 And, of course, I saved the best for last. This is my Mom. The creator and artist of so many of my most treasured possessions. My quilts.

I see no reason we shouldn’t want all drape our quilts around us and take our pictures. It looks like a great style to me!

Isn’t she adorable? Hmmm, I wonder where I get my silver hair from?

Learning how to display quilts in your home isn’t hard at all. I say anything goes, and you should do what YOU like.

What about you? Do you have a certain way that you like to display your quilts in your home or maybe a favorite quilt? I always love hearing from you, and if you have any quilt decorating ideas, please share them with me and others in the comment section. I can’t be the only one obsessed with my quilts.

Until the next project… xo, Do
