Fake snot is a must try for cool science, gross science, or even your next kids’ party! Easy to make with a few kitchen ingredients, fake snot slime is even edible or at the very least taste safe. This is one of our favorite slime alternatives. Do you know someone who will enjoy this totally gross, totally cool, totally fake snot activity?
FAKE SNOT FOR EDIBLE SLIME SCIENCE
AWESOME SLIME RECIPES FOR KIDS
We love making slime here, and we often use recipes that are not taste safe {but still very cool}! This is one of our top alternative slimes which has even been featured on Buzz Feed!
We made a few versions of this cool science experiment. We experimented with varying amounts of corn syrup and wound up with some very interesting types of slime.
Taste safe or edible slime is not something we do a whole lot of but sometimes you just need an alternative to the classic slime recipes that use liquid starch, saline solution, or borax powder.
FAKE SNOT RECIPE
SUPPLIES:
- Unflavored Gelatin, 3 packs
- Corn Syrup
- Water
- Food Coloring
HOW TO MAKE FAKE SNOT
I like to use two bowls for making this fake snot.
STEP 1. Mix 1/2 cup of boiling water and three packets of Knox brand unflavored gelatin in one bowl. Mix the gelatin and water with a fork. Add the gelatin in slowly but it will still tend to clump just the same. Let it stand for 5 minutes.
STEP 2. In another bowl, measure out a 1/2 cup corn syrup. Slowly add the gelatin mixture to corn syrup until it reaches the desired consistency, snot like! The fork helps to pull up cool strands of fake snot!
WHAT’S THE SCIENCE?
This is messy sensory science play! Although this is made with gelatin, the mixture of water and gelatin still makes a polymer. The proteins in the gelatin combined with the corn syrup to form gooey strands that resemble your snot.
The equal parts gelatin mixture to corn syrup made the perfect fake snot that you could pick up and watch flow like mucous. We used less corn syrup for our edible slime and made a thicker textured slime. Play around with different amounts of corn syrup to check out different textures.
Have you always wanted to play with fake gooey snot? You can even taste it too! It’s simply gelatin and sugar, but is not very tasty.
MORE FUN EDIBLE SLIME RECIPES TO TRY
Our fiber slime is another cool slime recipe for taste safe slime using psyllium husk powder or Metamucil! We had a blast figuring out the ratios need to make the best gooey slime mixture. This is perfect if you are looking for a chemical free slime option.
